Not necessarily the most obvious choice for a duo, the natural
difference in volume between these two instruments is balanced
by sensitive amplification of the guitar. Craig Ogden uses the
German-designed Schlemper system consisting of an internal
microphone and an extremely high-quality studio monitor especially
tuned by Stephan Schlemper to create the most natural
sound possible.
The repertoire for this combination is predominantly
contemporary with the natural jazz roots of the saxophone along
with folk and Celtic influences provoking some significantly funky
works. A constant stream of new pieces being written and adapted
enables Ogden and McChrystal to present recitals of variety and
accessibility. Gerard McChrystal (www.saxsaxsax.com)
is one of the UK’s leading saxophonists.
