SERENADE brings together three outstanding musicians whose programmes combine an entertaining mix of duos and trios for tenor, guitar and violin.

They have been selected by the Making Music Concert Promoters' Network for national touring 2006/7 and have been invited to several festivals.

 

'The dynamically talented Madeleine Mitchell' (Evening Standard), is one of the UK's most celebrated violinists, performing as a soloist in over 40 countries. She has given recitals in the Sydney Opera House, New York's Lincoln Centre, at many international festivals, frequently in London, for the BBC and Spanish National TV.  She has played concertos with orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic, Czech Radio Symphony and Munich Chamber.  Her CD 'British Treasures' - romantic British violin sonatas has been widely praised and 'In Sunlight: Pieces for Madeleine Mitchell' including Nyman and MacMillan (NMC D098), has just been released. Michael Bennett's recitals with Craig Ogden in classical and light music, including a live broadcast for France Musique, have been highly praised.  He began his career as a chorister at Westminster Abbey and has since then enjoyed an international career in opera and music theatre, from Cavalli to contemporary, performing in venues such as the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, Strasbourg, Berlin, New York and Covent Garden.  This year he is singing Mozart at Garsington, Britten 'Turn of the Screw' in Paris, and Purcell Dido and Aeneas in Berlin.  Based in Paris, Le Soir described him as "an English tenor of rare quality… magnificent’.

Include Purcell and Handel or Guiliani trios, Songs arranged for tenor, violin and guitar by Beethoven and Schubert (Standchen-Serenade) and R Strauss (Morgen), folk songs by Vaughan Williams for voice and violin and Britten for voice and guitar, jazz numbers including 'It had to be you', 'Anon in love' by Walton, Piazzolla L'Histoire de Tango for violin and guitar, Massenet 'Meditation' for violin and guitar, 'Padriac the Fiddler' and Matyas Seiber 'The Owl and the Pussy cat' for violin, tenor and guitar, Bach Chaconne/ Turkish Gypsy Dance for solo vln and a variety of Spanish and other guitar solos.
